Every single word you wrote can be written in nursing homes in Europe as well. Of course, there are some that allow visitors, and where masks are not mandatory (like my father in law in Baltimore). However, the overall point is end of life and where society (individualistic and performative as it has become) tackles issues such as handicap and old age. When I read a a book such as Lifespan David Sinclair whose thesis is aging is a disease by itself, then I know that we are heading towards eugenics. Old age is made invisible, behind bars, another prison worse as nobody leaves the place alive.

Even living in Florida where the nursing homes opened up pretty early, everything can shut down or disrupted at any time. The administration is constantly changing the resident's rooms in the name of covid safety with no consideration about how it effects people. Covid has allowed nursing homes to ignore dignity issues and Patient's rights to "keep them safe". It is very difficult to watch every day with no hope of an end to this travesty.
