This is so heartbreaking. Both my mother in law and one of my grandmas were nurses at nursing homes and both said they never wanted to be in one after what they experienced, and that was long before covid.
Even if it's just a phone call, aids like this can get the conversation started!
My Dad gets very reminiscent late at night so I make time to spend some nights with him and stay up late watching tv (but really listening to his stories).
What an extraordinary waste of human potential. I was so struck during my mother's last years at the treasure trove of memories she held within her mind, memories of different times, of different ways of being. These oral histories are being lost forever to the next generation of Earthlings, 'safely" ensconced behind their masks and pointless regulations. .
