What do I know? Nothing. That won't stop me from offering this thought FWIW (not much):

I think that the insane people who run our society believe that since the US is the "indispensable nation" we can do anything we damn please and no one will pull the plug. We can always find some country to buy our debt (is that what they do?) and print up more Vibranium and there will always be a willing buyer for that.

And I think that they were probably right when the US actually was the "indispensable nation."

But what if we aren't?

And - isn't it kind of stupid to pick a fight with the country that (a) holds a nice chunk of our debt (I read differing amounts) and with which we have a huge trade deficit? Over something that means nothing to most Americans.

Just asking.

As a Millennial I’m thrilled to live through another financial disaster. We can’t all be baby boomers I guess. (And yes you’re right about us.)

I listen to a podcast by Dr. Robert Pearl that’s called “Fixing Healthcare” and he spoke about the fact that more and more people are using government funded healthcare (Medicare, medicaid), I believe that it might be close to 50-50 now when compared to private healthcare. That number will continue to grow and eventually cause great strain to our already challenged medical system. Healthcare could be rationed at some point (in the future) or medicare/medicaid be severely affected and care could be limited. If the private sector continues to decline, we could be in big trouble. My (our) generation was told years ago not to rely on social security in retirement. I have always saved with that thought. Now I worry that what I have saved (mutual funds in retirement accounts) will disappear and will eventually be worthless. I hope people start to wake up, but I’m not hopeful. The US cannot continue the spending- there’s not enough people paying into the system. Those of us who are working/pay taxes can’t continue to support the ones who don’t.

Vote. Elections have consequences. It’s impossible not to have inflation after the government has poured trillions of dollars into the economy.

if local governments were to eschew the fed handouts (with the strings attached), then federal policies might actually change. for this reason alone, local elections are far more important than most people imagine.
