I think of the contrast with the final photos of Queen Elizabeth just days before her death. Yes, she looked frail but also very happy, smiling unmasked as she met the new (also unmasked) British Prime Minister. She had bruising on her hand (maybe from an IV line) and she was using a cane but her joy was palpable. She died with her son and daughter at her bedside. The saddest photo I saw of her was the one where she sat alone in a mask at Westminster as her husband Phillip was laid to rest a year ago. We've consigned so many of our American seniors to lives of loneliness without smiles, deaths in isolation, a prison-like mere existence. It is a travesty and a crime. I don't know how to make this stop but we MUST stop this.

it is horrible.

Covid stole humanity via our own elected officials.

Been the cna, been the family member but I haven't been able to find the words to express my disgust with what's happened.

This is heartbreaking. I just can't imagine why this is still happening. I really wish all the old people would just start throwing their walkers and raising hell. Also, the part about being overweight gives me hope, maybe I don't really need to lose those 15 lbs that have been refusing to go!

Whether you have had a loved one in a Nursing Home or have worked in a Facility - you will understand the significance of ‘Ode to the Nursing Home Dining Hall..’. Thank you Doc-Gero!

Unfortunately I’m reminiscing in sharing this. Every day as I made rounds, I enjoyed glimpses of several residents routines as they prepared for “The Main Dining Room.” The women choosing their jewelry to match their outfit (the necklace may have been won at BINGO) Men insisting on & assisted with a clean shave, counting the minutes to leave their rooms and head towards the MDR. After all, punctuality was important. It certainly WAS a highlight of their day. This small activity of daily living was stolen from them as the social distancing was mandated. The depression is palpable. Here it is 2.5 yrs later. As an advocate I’m through requesting. I am now demanding-

OPEN their Dining Rooms and let them anticipate, eat, socialize and thrive. It is our duty to allow our residents to enjoy their Golden Years!!
