Taken as a whole - these ongoing measures (temperate checks at the door, masks, pre-visit scheduling, vax passes, “snap lockdowns” d/t positive cases, etc) disincentivize visitations by the elderly, disabled, those that live far away, those who work on call or irregular hours (or have caregiving duties at home), those with medical (or perhaps psychiatric) issues that make masking a hassle or even potentially dangerous.
Why do we still have an entire panoply of these hindrances & disincentives on visitation in nursing homes still in place? Everyone is vaxxed & multi-boosted. According to many metrics, the risk of C19 for older adults is now less than that of contracting the flu.
We’re continuing to trifle with the psychosocial forces of despair (loneliness, isolation, depression) that we’ve known for years literally kills LTC residents - all to maintain this ongoing social narrative of being “in a deadly pandemic.”
Please continue to ask these questions, continue challenging the narrative. More and more of our colleagues are speaking out, I applaud those of you who stand up and say “enough” and give a voice to those of us that aren’t able to do so at this time for fear of retribution. It is my hope that the more medical professionals such as yourself, Vinay and others push back that more people will start to question and at least be willing to have a conversation. I appreciate learning and being given the opportunity on this platform to ask questions and voice frustration with the status quo. My voice is small but maybe if enough small voices start speaking, we will make a difference.
It has never, ever been a deadly pandemic, it is political, then, the submission to the dogma has become quasi religious for many still afraid a covid. "Almost impossible to overstate how wrong so many news corporations were on the "science "of covid:
- lab leak as conspiracy
- efficacy of lockdown
- harmlessness of school closures
- recovered immunity
- toddler masking
- vax mandates
A perfect record of anti- science failure." Jay Bhattacharya
I just read something about excess deaths in the Amish community during 2020. But what about the excess deaths in countries that adopted harsh mitigation measures (that didn't even work) now? The Amish went through their time of travail as a community & they emerged stronger. Look at us.
