One of the nursing units in our region had a resident come up positive on a COVID test (it was r/t a transfer from another unit, I believe). The rest of the unit was then swabbed. Six additional positive tests.
The unit is now shut down for 14 days, no visitors, no volunteers.
All the residents are vaxxed & multi-boosted. Not a single resident or staff is symptomatic. At all.
I am so disheartened right now. They will never stop this. It feels like we have sentenced my dad to live his final days in a prison. My mom who did everything she could (to the detriment of her own health) is beside herself with guilt and grief. Robbing what little life and joy these elders have left to mitigate the risk of dying from a virus. Could a solution be to open up separate care homes where life could return to normal with activities, volunteers and unfettered visits and outings. Only test symptomatic people and allow unfettered access to early treatments as per FLCCCA guidelines? SOMETHING needs to change NOW. Their days are limited - virus or no virus!

Stop swabbing symptomless healthy people
Why??? Just why????
